Notice is given that a Special General Meeting

Notice is given that a Special General Meeting (SGM) of Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania Inc (ABN: 95 897 499 497) will be held:  

Date: Thursday, 14 September 2023 

Time 10am  

Venues: Online via Zoom and at Neighbourhood Houses Offices, 16b Elmsleigh Road, Derwent Park, Tasmania 7009. 

The purpose of the SGM is to consider and, if thought fit, approve Changes to Neighbourhood Houses Constitution.

Neighbourhood Houses from Rosebery to Geeveston, King Island to Nubeena are inviting everyone to celebrate Neighbourhood House Week 2023.  

Neighbourhood House Week is a nationally celebrated week from the 8th to the 14th of May 2023.  

This year’s theme is “locals connecting locals.” The annual week aims to celebrate and raise awareness of over 1,000 Neighbourhood and Community Houses and Centres across Australia.

Neighbourhood Houses across Tasmania to receive $1.75 million.

The Tasmania Government has announced a $5 million cost of living booster package which includes $1.75 million for Tasmania’s Neighbourhood Houses. Each of the houses will receive an additional $50,000.

The COVID 19 pandemic has altered and continues to impact on Tasmanian communities. Neighbourhood Houses have stepped up along with other community organisations to respond to changing and increasing community needs.

NHT Advocacy to Stop the Debt Trap

NHT has joined other consumer advocates in calling for Parliament to vote against watered-down protections against predatory lenders.

NHT have supported  a campaign led by the Consumer Action Law Centre to Stop the Debt Trap, and to reject the Federal Government’s proposed changes to laws governing high-cost payday loans and consumer leases, calling for Parliament to vote against the Bill in a submission to the Senate Economics Legislation Committee.

A Shared Statement of Intention has been drawn up by the CEOs from a diverse group of peak bodies (including NHT), these peak bodies represent the majority of Tasmanians. This statement of intention provides information for engaging Tasmanians in the state's response to COVID both now and into the future. Below are the letters to the Premier of Tasmania and the Chair of the Premier's Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council (PESRAC).
